AdeleE! News
Adele's father probably shouldn't be expecting a gift this Father's Day.

Theophilus London Spent a Whole Lot of Time on Rebecca Minkoff's Fall 2012 Runway

Theophilus London opened Rebecca Minkoff's fall 2012 show with a performance of his song "I Stand Alone," and then he also joined the models for the finale walk, and Minkoff for her bow. But the show featured more than just him (and his all-leather outfit plus sparkly belt): Minkoff, known for bags that everybody loves, showed a lot of mustard and ruby tones with pops of chocolate brown, bright orange, and emerald green. Take a look through the gallery above for some of the highlights.

Black and White and Smokey All Over: Phillip Lim Fall 2012

For fall 2012, Phillip Lim appears to be really into the idea of black-and-white outfits, as well as replicating the Miracle Dress phenomenon that has gripped the nation universe. His collection was pretty moody and also really, really smokey. (See the above photos for evidence of a very intense smoke machine.) We saw structured and sharp blazers, dresses, and pants, several with slimming side-panels à la Stella McCartney. While we prefer Lim when he's a little brighter—we're still wearing the shit out of spring 2009—it's undeniable that the collection was filled with sophisticate basics. Plus, as overly enthusiastic Ryan Gosling fans (hey girl), we commend him for setting the show to A Real Hero from the Drive soundtrack.

All Aboard the Orient Express: Dennis Basso's Fall 2012 Show

For his fall 2012 show, Dennis Basso took us on a decadent journey, the theme of which was The Orient Express. It began with the sound of a train whistle, and of course, with the fact that the almighty Joan Rivers was in the front row. Sumptuous featherweight furs worn casually over cashmere and chiffon dresses set the tone: This was a definite return to the days of glamor. Patent leather sky high shoes by Ruthie Davis in taupe, grey and dark brown enhanced the ensembles perfectly, and there were definitely audible oohs and aahs from the crowd as the models came down the runway.

Reem Acra Hopes You Have Somewhere Really Nice to Go This Fall

In addition to sending down some of the most powerful leather pencil skirts and matching leather tops imaginable, Reem Acra also paraded a slew of gorgeous gowns down the runway for her fall 2012 show. The show opened with the above mentioned separates, followed by cashmere crew knit sweaters and wool and herringbone shifts with beaded detailing.
But then: the gowns. Two of them were nearly impossible to walk in (a slit would have been helpful), but besides that, we could only hope to one day have the occasion—and the disposable income—to snag one. There was an ebony embroidered silk chiffon long-sleeve gown that stole our hearts, as well as the final number, an ebony sunburst one-shoulder in silk crepe and tulle. Take a look through the gallery above for those, as well as other highlights from the collection.

The Limited, White House|Black Market Brought in Some Big Models for Their Spring Campaigns

Perhaps following in the footsteps of Free People, who recently tapped Karlie Kloss for a January editorial and Freja Beha Erichsen for another one in February, brands like White House|Black Market and The Limited have decided to sign some of their own big models, too.
Coco Rocha, who seemingly appears to be everywhere nowadays, will also be in the White House|Black Market ads, which includes a spot during prime-time TV that will air on Monday. And The Limited has roped in Karolina Kurkova, and though they declined to comment on their media budget, an insider said, "It's approaching the $10 million level." Well, Victoria's Secret models aren't cheap.

Behind the Beauty: Alice + Olivia's Goth Lipstick

Photos by Anna Fischer for Racked.com

Alice + Olivia is beloved for their feminine clothes, delicate fabrics, and romantic details. But their Fall 2012 show revealed a new side to the brand: goth. Beauty.com makeup artist Sarah Lucero devised the look, using products from Stila. The lips were a gorgeous shade of deep plum, achieved by using Stay All Day Liquid Lip Color in Aria, which won't be in stores until this fall.
The vibe was "Coquette Cool," and the look wouldn't be out of place in one of the new Snow White movies. Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet said that the collection was inspired by dinner parties (lots of sequins and bold colors), and you certainly won't look like you've had too much to drink if your lips are already the color of wine.

Go Ahead and Pre-Order Alexander Wang's Fall 2012 Collection

Alexander Wang's fall 2012 runway show happened only a few days ago, but since Moda Operandi never skips a beat, you can currently pre-order it on the site. There are 20 different looks to choose from, so if you'd like to (pre) purchase an entire outfit, you can do that, or you can mix it up and go piece by piece. Plus, there are accessories—lots of them.
The collection is full of Wang's signature black, white, and leather, with pieces that seem a lot more wearable than some of the more recent collections have been. We like Alexander Wang, as does everyone else, but we like him best when he keeps it nice and simple—you know, as simple as sheer tops and drapey goddess dresses can be. Take a look through the gallery above of the Moda Operandi offerings, and then head here to begin the pre-ordering.

Oscar de la Renta Nail Polish; Neutrogena's Twitter Party; The Scent of NYFW

2012_02_oscar-de-la-renta-nail-polish.jpg

NAILS—So much for nail polish being a fad. Even Oscar de la Renta is getting into the game. He will launch a line of polishes in October, and three of the colors appeared in his show yesterday. From left to right they're Red Carnation, Aubergine, and Larimar. [Birchbox]
SKIN—Today from 2:00-2:30 PM EST, Neutrogena and beauty blogger Amber Katz are hosting a "Twitter party" where you can ask all the questions you want related to skin care and face issues. Though sadly this party doesn't serve cupcakes, but you might finally figure out how to cope with that zit. Use the hashtag #neutrogenaflawlessface. [Racked Inbox]
FRAGRANCE—What does Fashion Week smell like? Luxury candle brand Diptyque helped scent some of NYFW's biggest shows, including Victoria Beckham (their "Figuier" scent) and Rachel Zoe (rose and black currant). Those are both preferable to the usual combo of Pop Chips, nail polish remover, and exhaustion. [Beauty Counter]

Oscar de la Renta's Smiling Models Are Sort of Happy, Sort of Scary

Oscar de la Renta definitely gets the award for happiest models of the week. In a pleasant change of pace, his girls were sent down the runway with pretty smiles rather than the the typical expressionless glare. Combine that with his polished '60s-inspired dresses, and the event almost felt more like a debutant ball than a runway show.

It's Here: The Entire Doo.Ri for Macy's Collection

Doo.Ri's capsule collection for Macy's Impulse landed kind of quietly online and in stores this morning. But though the launch lacked all the fanfare of the recent Jason Wu for Target frenzy, it actually one of the better collaborations we've seen. The clothes are fashionable, but not too trendy, and except for one faux leather jacket, everything is under $85. Peep the entire collection (with prices) above, and then shop it over here.

Sex, Anger, and Vengeance in a Dress at Kevork Kiledjian

Here's a few adjectives to describe the style of designer Kevork Kiledjian: sexy, body-con, vampy, even maybe too tight. All in all, it's very French, which is appropriate considering Kiledjian is one of those leather jacket-wearing Parisians who look as though they're always two seconds from turning on their heel, throwing a half-smoked cigarette into the gutter, and strutting off to some ridiculously cool underground party.
So too do his models appear, clad this season in the reddest red leather and fur, jet black dresses with navy panels, super-slim pants (with a bell kick from the ankle, to give only a peek at the stiletto underneath) and leather, leather, leather. They may not be able to walk too freely in those skintight skirts, but they will kick your ass no questions asked, a fact underlined by the angry eyebrows.

Last-Minute Red Lipstick for Valentine's Day: A Guide

2012_02_Jessica-Rabbit.png

Surprise: It's Valentine's Day, and red lips are a no-brainer for an easy, last-minute upgrade to your date outfit. But there are some basic rules to consider, like making sure to underplay the eyes when going for a bold red, or considering the lighting of where you'll be when choosing a color. And while finding that perfect shade of red is a matter of trial and error, choosing the texture can be first step toward getting the mouth you want.
For starters: Lipstick formulas are about the mixture of hydration and pigment. The more pigment in the lipstick, the less hydrating the formula typically is, and vice versa. So this is a good place to start: Whatever your shade, here's how to create five different moods with five different red lipstick textures.

Betsey Johnson Presents: Betseymania, a Runway Show That Was Basically a Tribute to the Beatles (Betsey Style)

 Photos via Getty Images

Betsey Johnson's runway shows are always a hoot, to say the least—last year, Nicki Minaj almost couldn't handle Betsey's signature split. Unfortunately Nicki Minaj wasn't there this year, but a pregnant Kristen Cavallari was, and people were going apeshit over her. Coco Rocha was also there, in her third outfit of the day, as well as Cory Kennedy and that hunky Nigel Barker.
But enough about that, let's just talk about Betsey and her show. Before the models walked out, shots of screaming female teens played on a projector above. The looks were all titled with something Beatles or London related (the first was Sgt. Pepper, another, The Walrus) and Beatles songs did definitely play—spliced between 50 Cent and Lil' Mama (yep, that lipgloss song.)

Vera Wang: 'Stone Angels' Don't Get to Wear Mascara

We've heard models compared to lots of things, but gargoyles are definitely not one of them. However, backstage at today's Vera Wang show, the word came up as a way to describe the gothic, "cathedral-esque" beauty looks. "They're sort of like gargoyles or stone angels staring down at you in the church." Translation? Super-strong brows, windswept hair, and dark eye shadow. That didn't mean mascara or blush, both of which were nixed by makeup artists in order to keep the look bold.
The makeup was from Cle de Peau, and a model favorite were the new luminizers, which the brand's Lucia Pieroni said were her staple for fall. The hair was by Fekkai, and stylists ran mousse through wet hair, then brushed upward with a men's comb to get a look that could have been straight out of The Birds. We don't envy the models who have to get all that out of their hair later, but the look sure was dramatic.

Whitney Houston's Body Arrives at Funeral Home as Burial Plans Formally Announced

 Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston is one step closer to resting in peace.
After being transported cross-country yesterday, and touching down in New Jersey's Teterboro Airport last night, the singer's remains, ensconced in a golden hearse, made their way to the Whigham Funeral Home late yesterday. The home has been tasked with organizing the funeral service of the 48-year-old icon and today made its first official announcement as to its plans.

Ellen Degeneres , Bruce Jenner, Kris Jenner

Like all good parents, Bruce and Kris Jenner support their children's decisions—but that doesn't mean they don't question them.
The patriarch and matriarch of the Kardashian clan sat down with Ellen DeGeneres this week and discussed—with somewhat surprising honesty—just what they think of Kim Kardashian's infamous 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries.
And let's just say, if Bruce has his overprotective way, it's not a series of events that will likely be repeated.

Chris Benz Hops on the Chatanooga Choo Choo, Or Something

Since The Great Gatsby is now a very big theme, Chris Benz's fall 2012 presentation took a page straight out of 1940. Or maybe 1920, as it was a little hard to tell. We imagine both time periods were pretty fun, though the models here looked particularly bored and over it. We, on the other hand, enjoy a good red patent leather pump paired with white fishnets every now and then (why not?), so we spent yesterday afternoon gawking at his models at Lincoln Center.
So let's see: There were hats, shiny gloves that looked like a camel hoof-lobster hybrid, full skirts paired with embellished tops, and a sequin tiered dress worn with a giant bow collar, among other many things. Pretty much what you'd expect an extra boozy Daisy Buchanan to wear. Take a look through the gallery above for a few looks from the collection, and be sure not to miss the photo of the dressed-up models being bizarre-o anachronisms with their point-and-shoot camera.

Alice + Olivia's Festive and Celeby Presentation

Alice + Olivia describes 2012 as, "The year of the dinner party," which makes sense, since the brand's fall 2012 Fashion Week presentation was very festive. Waiters passed specialty cocktails and Magnum ice-cream bars, as attendees admired designer Stacey Bendet's Lolita-inspired collection. The beautifully, and of course, festively dressed models lined three walls of the room—allowing for an easy view of the collection, (unlike at a certain other presentation we could mention). All wore their hair in chignons, which somehow made every one of them look like a cross between Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicole Kidman.
The clothes were fabulous, and just what you'd expect from Alice + Olivia—glittery, glamorous, and hip. The collection's "coquette cool" vibe ran through all the garments, particularly the outerwear and eveningwear—with the latter category including the launch of the brand's first gown collection. Fabrics included everything we love—rich brocades, leathers, embroidery, furs, and metallics. And the pallet was made up of bold jewel tones mixed in with Stacey's signature black and white colorblocking. Every look made a statement.
This way for the celebs and an appearance by Eloise!>>
