All Aboard the Orient Express: Dennis Basso's Fall 2012 Show

For his fall 2012 show, Dennis Basso took us on a decadent journey, the theme of which was The Orient Express. It began with the sound of a train whistle, and of course, with the fact that the almighty Joan Rivers was in the front row. Sumptuous featherweight furs worn casually over cashmere and chiffon dresses set the tone: This was a definite return to the days of glamor. Patent leather sky high shoes by Ruthie Davis in taupe, grey and dark brown enhanced the ensembles perfectly, and there were definitely audible oohs and aahs from the crowd as the models came down the runway.

And there was a ton of fur, from vests, short coats with hoods, and knee length coats in sable, lynx, and ermine. Body conscious gowns and dresses were embellished with Swarovski Crystals and glass beads while fitted cashmere sheaths created perfect silhouettes beneath coats and vests. Needless to say, the color palate of taupe, gray, black, brown, white, and a bold dash of cayenne played a key role in the luxurious feeling evoked by the clothes. Have a look through the gallery above for a few of the collection's stunners.—Pam Krywy
