Fashion Week Spotlight: Kate Spade

Each day throughout Fashion Week we'll be spotlighting one brand or designer whose pieces make up the bulk of our own closets—and we're guessing yours, too. We'll let you know what to expect to see in stores next season and, of course, any other gossip we took away from the shows.

The thing that really works about Kate Spade is that it always feels cheery, even when it seems that Creative Director Deborah Lloyd isn't deliberately trying to be. Polka dots, kitschy-cute sayings, prints, and brights are just things that she loves, and when she puts them all together for a Kate Spade collection, you're left with the impression that you should love them too. Admittedly, not everything is 100% our style 100% of the time (more often than not you'll find us in black, not neon green), but that only means that the Kate Spade pieces we inevitably flock to become our closet-brighteners.
And the upcoming fall 2012 collection is full of them. This season, Deborah was inspired by the Cour d'Honneur at Paris' Palais Royal. The collection notes wear titled: "Toutes les filles sont folles," which translates to all the girls are mad. Deborah explains:
It's one of my favorite spots. Sitting in the courtyard you look out over a sea of graphic striped pillars and into the lush garden beyond. For me, this represents our fall collection—a play on prints, mixing abstract patterns with dreamy watercolors and polka dots of every proportion.
Some thoughts on the collection, this way>>
